Use of Chemical Weapons by Terrorist Organizations
Chemical Terrorism: Trends and Threats is a research project that investigates the use of chemical weapons by terrorist organizations over the past five decades. By analyzing data from leading terrorism databases, the project tracks incidents involving chemical agents, categorizing them by perpetrators, targets, geographic regions, delivery methods, and types of chemicals used.
The research highlights patterns in attack sophistication, the relative rarity yet high psychological impact of chemical terrorism, and the role of material availability in facilitating such attacks. Through this comprehensive review, the project offers critical insights into the evolving nature of chemical threats and aims to support policymakers, security professionals, and scholars in better understanding and mitigating the risks posed by non-state actors deploying chemical weapons.
